Up in Waco for the Day

I got up early this morning to do my morning practices (and to make sure I got upside down a bit) before heading up the highway to Waco. I had a meeting with the Provost, Dean, and various money people about some new positions for BIC. I was a little nervous, something about seeing calculators and three ring binders in front of me, but it went well. Hopefully, we'll get the positions.

Next on the docket, I'm helping with BIC recruiting and then coffee with Gabrielle and lunch with Andy and then I hope to make it back to Austin in time for CT's 4:30 class.

Tomorrow, I'm off to a Diversity conference in Columbia Missouri.

Also, Happy Anniversary to Mom and Dad. They've been married 49 years. Pretty impressive.

Milo with the water sprinkler

As an enthusiastic new home owner, I decided to water the lawn. It was looking pretty parched. Milo very much enjoyed the fun times.

I had a good day yesterday and today is off to a good start as well. I got a ton of papers cleared off my desk, in fact, my desk is completely clean in the first time since I can remember. I've done some editing, and a lot of laundry with my brand new whirpool high efficiency washer dryer, and I walked Milo this morning.

I'm getting ready to go to the club and then to Christina's yoga classes. Fun, Fun, Fun.

Anne in Austin, Indeed.

It has been ages since I've written. I've been totally swamped with moving from the Westrock house into my lovely new home in the 45. Everything about the house is really perfect. Last week, I spent most of my time unpacking boxes and organizing a room a day. There's still more organization to do, but things are pretty much in place now and Delora came to clean and somehow that made it feel like I really live here now!

I've allowed my writing time to get squeezed out with all the domestic organization, but I'm recommitting to do as of today. I have about 8 weeks until Jeff and I go out to the Darren and Christina workshop and my goal is to have the book sent to the press editor for review by then.

As part of the writing plan, I'm also blogging. Again,

Anyway, here's the plan du jour. I have to send a conference paper off, organize all my notes I made about finishing the book over the past few weeks that I've not been writing, start revising the final chapter.

Also on the docket, morning practices... drop milo off at puppy school, go to CT's class, workout, return a defective dog bed, go to Devon's class.

A couple fun photos

I've been pretty swamped with various logistics of moving so I haven't been writing much of anything lately. My step daughter, Christa, got married this weekend at the Scarborough Faire Reinaissance Festival. It was a festive event, more pictures at some future juncture. (You can check out their wedding website at chrisandchrista.org. Here are a couple pictures of me and Jeff in our festival attire.

Back in Austin

I've been away a while. First, I went to the Ancient Philosophy Society Conference in Baltimore, then I flew from there to New Orleans for a week long yoga retreat with Patricia Walden. That was a fantastic experience. I learned so much both from her and from 37 other yoginis. It was really a powerful phenomenon seeing so many people with long term yoga practices and how it helps people on so many different levels. It was also fascinating seeing women ranging in age from early thirties to almost 80 and the love of yoga as what brought everyone together.

I got back Friday afternoon, had a really fun weekend hanging out with Jeff, Milo, and Q. Today, I'm back working on things, mostly feeling overwhelmed by my lengthy to do list, but I'm taking Anne Lamott's advice and just handling the list "bird by bird."

Had a nice break at LifeTime Fitness. I rode the exercise bike, and swam some laps, hot tub, sauna, pool, and feel decidedly less stressed. I'm going to Peggy's advanced class at 3:45.

In Darkest Baltimore

I managed to leave DFW successfully this week. Last week, I tried to get up to a conference in Memphis, but my flight was cancelled and I would have missed my paper, so I just turned around and came back to Austin (though as Patricia Walden says, there's no just... that took several hours because of the weather first in Austin, then in route and then in Dallas). However, Jeff and I had a fabulous weekend which more than made up for the rather bizarre round of travel hell.

This time around, I was more sensible in my travel planning. I actually got in the night before my paper (actually I didn't have a choice, because I couldn't get into Baltimore and out to the conference in time for my session). After I got in the BWI, I took the light rail out to Timonium Business Park and then walked to the hotel. It was only supposed to be a block away, but let's just say it was a very long block.. I went out with Jessy and Jamie (more on that on the Teaching Blog) and really had a fabulous time. They really like Baltimore and the place the selected, The Brewer's Art, was a great experience.

This morning I've had a really productive time in the hotel, despite the fact that this is one of the noisiest hotels I've stayed at in a long time. I work incredibly well in hotels, always have. Something about being cut off from everything, that and people bring yummy treats to eat to keep you going.. I got a nice practice in as well, which is always especially welcome while travelling.

So I've got a big afternoon of conferencing ahead and then dinner with Silvia, a friend from grad school
